Her den was silent. Lazy air particles danced in an out of the small stream of light that filtered through a small hole at the top of the leader's den. It was somewhat of a pink light, the type that come at dawn, but already it was becoming clearer and closer to the usual watery white yellow. The ray edged near Breezestar's nose before climbing up her face. Finally, it hit her eyelids, and they opened to reveal marvelous, aquamarine orbs.
There were the soft sounds of shuffling coming from the den beside her where the warriors slept and the faint sound of a mewling kit coming from the nursery which was across the Master Burrow. It seemed that she was the only one up. Breezestar shook her pelt of any dirt or dust that might have fallen on it during the night and stretched before quickly preening her short silver fur. As soon as she finished she gave one final shake before padding out of her den.
The fresh-kill pile was empty like it should have been at the time of morning. She'd have to get the dawn patrol going, she thought to herself, already choosing in her mind the cats she would take. She was turning toward the Warriors' Den when she heard a soft pawstep behind her. She tilted her head to the side before turning her eyes to the cat who had obviously either just gotten up or been up earlier than she.
